Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

12 Sep

There are some pointers in life which I adhere to whenever I, the grooming editor have been out and about working the media circuit with its events. Prior to passing out in sheer exhaustion (or drunkenness if alcohol is involved), I always make sure I wake up fully clothed, whatever visible evidence of the night before has been removed with a good cleansing water and 4 drops of this Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate is massaged into my tired and weary skin.

With Squaline, Evening Primrose Oil and Lavender, this elixir is bursting with pure essential oils and distilled botanicals to aid skin in its restoration during the night. Simply massage a good 2-3 drops of this prior to bedtime and wake up to a smoother and radiant complexion in the morning.

It is very light in texture and absorbs oh so quickly into the skin. I find myself falling into a really deep sleep with this as it has a strong yet not overpowering lavender smell. One of the must have treatments whenever I am in a penance kind of mood after a crazy day of work/clubbing. I always find myself walking up looking all soft and well rested even though I had like 4 hours of sleep the night before with this. The results do get better as over a course of 4 nights with this, my skin did take on a more relaxed and well-rested appearance. Since 4 drops are used each time, this 30ml of oil would probably last me quite a long while (4 months maybe?).

Verdict: If you are in the mood for repentance for the sins such as late nights and post club syndrome, this fragrance, mineral oil and paraben free oil will aid you back on that track for skin rejuvenation.

Kiehl’s Double Strength Deep Wrinkle Filler

3 Aug

At the age of 29, I am glad that yours truly have managed to escape so far unscathed when the area of wrinkling is concerned. (Cheers to putting up a good fight in the anti-aging front, I would like to thank glycerin, peptides…) But due to a recent weight loss (Hurrah), I did notice I developed a serious case of nasolabial folds (boo). Well thank goodness for Kiehl’s Double Strength Deep Wrinkle Filler.

Formulated with peptides, polymers and biocompatible Hyaluronic Acids. This silicone free wrinkle filler immediately seeps into skin to puff and fluff up wrinkles. A long-term wrinkle reducer, this product will keep skin smooth and line free when used daily.

Don’t scream, it is just picture of moi smiling to demonstrate the effects of this wrinkle filler. Notice how the left side looks more fluffed up and less severe when compared to the right nasolabial fold. This in my opinion is top-notched stuff as its so simple to use. Just tap it in on deep wrinkles and lines after toning and before moisturiser and watch the wrinkles fade literally before your eyes. No stinging, burning or itching encountered with this product either. Kiehl’s definitely scored high on my list with this wonderful and innovative filler.

Verdict: Serious stuff for the battle against lines, recommended for Groomies who are looking for an alternative option towards wrinkle management without the prodding and poking from the aesthetician’s office.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque

1 Jul

When the last dollop of its black nectar drained from its tube, The Kose Mask White heaved its last breath. After wishing it well and goodbye, I was alone again on the market for something deep cleansing. I decided to shark around Kiehl’s as I seem to be enticed by all the European skincare offerings of late and the Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque seemed to tick all the boxes in my search for something deep cleansing.

A masque formulated with Amazonian White Clay for purifying and detoxifying the skin. It draws out impurities and a multitude of sins gently while unplugging pores for a more refined surface. Oatmeal and Aloe Vera are also thrown into the mix to soothe, hydrate and protect sensitive skin.

I applied this after a through cleanse, and boy did it sting. My feet clenched in horror and I nearly broke the floor tiles.

(faints and passes out)

Got you didn’t I? It was not that serious, just a mild tingling sensation that’s barely noticeable. Although the tub says leave it for a good 15 minutes, I would let the masque hit drying point (you’ll know when your there, that’s the point when the masque feels so tight you look and feel like you had a facelift that would do Joan Rivers proud) before washing it off with lukewarm water.

Under the scrutiny of my toilet lights and mirror, I can honestly say I never felt so thoroughly cleaned out. My skin glowed as if some form of oxygen has been injected into it. Oh! This masque somehow managed to flatten a couple of stubborn emotional acne (I get these when I am extremely stressed out) that sprouted over the weekend. Wait! I’m not done yet! The good thing about this mask is it does somehow controls oil and sebum secretions as I noticed my face does not seem that oily after a good 2 weeks of usage.

Verdict: Recommended for the oily and combination skin groomie, this multi-tasking, hardworking deep clean purifying machine will constrict enlarged pores while controlling the grease. However, never abuse a good thing, as twice a week is all a groomie would need for a thorough clean.

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque retails at S$45 at all Kiehl’s Outlets.

Kiehl’s Darkness Diminishing Activated Eye Treatment

29 Jun

I have decided to take a week’s hiatus from my job to audition for the Kung Fu Panda 2 Mascot position. Honestly, my dark eye circles seemed to have worsened due to the hot sun that’s been plaguing me for the past few weeks. My dear friend  C*** (I never kiss and tell) sold me a tube of Kiehl’s Darkness Diminishing Activated Eye Treatment for 30 bucks (bless her soul) as its been lying around her boudoir of skincare for a while.

Containing high levels of Vitamin C and Plum extracts, it claims to whiten and brighten tired peepers while slowing down and decreasing melanin production. Its also great for contact lens wearers as it does not migrate into eyes unless you deliberately rub them in.

Honestly I had my doubts with this eye cream, as it was neither scented nor refreshing. Zero tingling and smell aside, its consistency is pretty thick and provides quite a slip making patting it on a breeze. Does the job in moisturizing the eye area plus I noticed the eye area somehow felt “tighter”. I did do my wake and peek routine everyday with this one, much to my dismay, as nothing dramatic seemed to have happened during the first few days of initial use. However 2 weeks into this eye cream, I did notice my eye area somehow began to look normal, like I had clocked a good 7 hours sleep. Non-the brighter but non-the darker, I pressed on with this product and realized perhaps its not meant to really lighten the dark circles but boost circulation to help eyes achieve a more rested look. Oh I nearly forgot to mention this eye cream did not cause any form of oil clogs and milia seeds under my abuse.

Verdict: Recommended for groomies who just want an injection of brightening and tightening and not erase-a-lining. Do pop by a Kiehl’s outlet for a try before you buy.
